Nukes to Negotiations, A Path to Peace

Nukes to Negotiations is controversial, at least in the West, because it rests on a fundamental contrarian assumption: That Kim Jong-un and the people who make up his regime are not evil, cartoonish supervillains. Instead, they are full human beings with the same types of complex thoughts, feelings, and motivations that we have, just set within a context of very different life experiences and circumstances.

Nukes to Negotiations approaches the problem of creating a nuclear disarmament treaty from a constructivist point of view in which the motivations of the individuals involved matter. If one assumes understanding individual motivation is the key to success, they will not write off every action of the Kim regime as the result of inherent evil or an enjoyment of human suffering. To do so would be foolish as it would produce gross miscalculations in future behavioral patterns.

The goal of Nukes to Negotiations is to decrease future human suffering by taking a realistic look at the possible outcomes: war, failed state, or a successful transition to an economic model resembling China and Vietnam. It then takes a pragmatic and empathetic approach to build a roadmap towards the third option, the only reasonable path towards lasting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula
